Our Mission
To provide a quality education for our students, we, the staff, parents and community of Tussing Elementary School believe it is our mission to:

A Fully Accredited School
Tussing Elementary School is a fully accredited school serving grades K-5 and about 580 students.

History
Tussing Elementary School opened its doors in August of 1975, with an enrollment of 756 students in grades K through 6, with a staff of 39 teachers, a guidance counselor, librarian, secretary, and a principal.
The school was accredited by the Commonwealth of Virginia the first year and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in December 1979. The school remains accredited by both organizations.
In 1986, Tussing Elementary School was recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia as one of the twelve schools in the state in the United States Department of Education's Elementary School Recognition Program
Tussing Elementary School housed grades K-5 starting in 1990, when the Junior High School became the Middle School.
P.T.O.
The Tussing Elementary Parent Teacher Organization meets the first Thursday in September, November, December, March, April and May. The organization is very active in providing many services and financial support to the school. Two large pieces of playground equipment, the blacktop on the basketball court, library books, audio-visual equipment, and in cooperation with the Recreation Department, the ball field behind the school have been a few of the projects of the P.T.O.
S.C.A.
The Student Cooperative Association is made up of students in grades 3 through 5. The organization has received the "Achievement Award" from the Virginia Student Council Association for the past three years. As a fund raiser, the association operates the Student Book Store.
Safety Patrol
Members of our Safety Patrol are fifth grade students who were recommended by their fourth grade teacher. These students have the duty of assisting in having a safe environment at our school.
